The demand for ethnic-sensitive support is growing as more wombyn and girls of African descent find themselves in need of care. As wombyn, we see the trauma and drama that girls today are experiencing and many times it motivates s to want to help them. We are often inspired to "save" a girl whose experiences (for many of us) mirror our own.
How do we as wombyn, create for our girls what they need, when we never received what we needed when we were girls?
Deep down inside we know that the answers lie within our own healing. We know and recognize our girls' pain because we once were them.

During a time when our nation is struggling with social issues in the Black community, it is imperative for us to look within to heal our wounds. It does "take a village to raise a child," and to raise a healthy child, the village must be healthy and robust to be effective. The Butterfly University specializes in supporting Black women in general, but especially Black women who empower our girls.
